ConstructionMarket Overview: The current Construction market remains buoyant with significant levels of both Public and Private sector investment leading to us register a record number of jobs with main contractors, specialist sub-contractors and building companies across the region. With a strong portfolio of commercial, civil, industrial, residential, retail, fit-out, education and design and build projects the demand for experienced Commercial and Construction staff remains at an all time high. East Anglia’s reputation as a key growth area outside of London can be clearly seen in the continuing range of projects that have been recently constructed and those currently going through tender and planning stages. These schemes include the Riverside development in Norwich, a new 335m hospital at Peterborough, the Cambridge Leisure Park, Grand Arcade and CB1 developments, the new harbour development at Ipswich and the proposed new Centre Parcs in Bedfordshire. East Anglian Contractors continue to mirror the national shortage across the UK for good quality professionals, particularly commercial staff at an intermediate and senior level and Quantity Surveyors at all levels capable of successful client and financial management. Contracts Managers, Project Managers with main contracting experience and competent Site Managers with a consistent background of delivering projects remain in short supply. Clients continue to prefer to employ both commercial and site based staff on a permanent basis, although long term contract positions are still available. As a Client recruiting for Construction & Commercial staff in East Anglia, London or the South our experience suggests that an increased salary alone is not enough to attract skilled Quantity Surveyors and the key candidates you may be searching for into considering a career move. Salaries continue to increase and clients are having toconsider levels previously reserved for London based employers to attract intermediate and senior level applicants. However, motivation for a career move is just as likely to come from the type of project on offer. The career promotion prospects, flexible working conditions and overall benefits package that you can offer to potential employees will also play a major factor in your success at recruiting and retaining staff. In the current market good quality candidates will still end up with a number of interviews and potential offers to consider. Having the flexibility to consider strong candidates that could bring something to your organisation rather than searching for an exact match to your job specifications will bring your company the best results.
