Key Findings

Our 2021 Salary Guides have been updated for all our core-built environment disciplines.

The survey covered a period that few could have predicted. A backdrop of an industry coming to terms with Brexit transition combined with the unprecedented impact of a pandemic which has affect the lives of us all. Covid-19 was the driving force behind major business decisions for well over a year.

Companies of all sizes have had to navigate lockdown, furlough, home working and adapting to operating in the most testing of times. In this region, we've seen a profession holding steady in the face of serious adversity. In our experience, feedback suggests that the built environment has as a whole remained resilient and optimistic about its long-term prospects to recover. Clients and employees have adapted well to new working practices with a real change in outlook on hybrid and home working. Confidence and demand has returned with real force in the second half of 2021.

While salaries weren’t high on the agenda when our survey was compiled earlier this year. At the time job security was the driving force in candidates considering a career move. This was closely followed by a continued rise in demand from employees looking for the continuation of flexible and hybrid working as a long-term benefit attracting many professionals.

Many staff in secure jobs have been weighing up their options as part of a wider post-pandemic review of personal priorities. Professionals and employers are adapting to these changing conditions, which will continue to impact on employee loyalty and development prospects for staff for the foreseeable future.
